Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Los Angeles and Beats1Run 5K - October 25, 2015

October 25 was another crazy day for me in LA.  I was already scheduled to run the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon in Los Angeles, when Beats By Dre asked if I was available to run a 5K on the same day.  I looked at the time for the 5K, and thought I can totally run a half marathon downtown and make it to Venice by 11am.  For any of you who live in LA or have visited, you know that even 4 miles in LA traffic could easily mean an hour of commute time, and Venice was a good 15+ miles away from downtown.  But I was up for the challenge, and it's always hard for me to say no to Beats By Dre!

We started off race weekend, as we always did by attending the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Los Angeles Expo.  I've ran Rock 'n' Roll races before, and would say that this is definitely a smaller race expo.  Not much to see or do, and definitely less energy.

Then it was off to bed for race day the following morning.

It was a relatively flat course all along Downtown Los Angeles, reaching as far south as USC's campus, and as far north as the Arts District.  We had a surprise hill, when the course was changed a couple days before due to the 6th street bridge being closed.  Instead we were re-routed through Bunker Hill, which is known for it's steep incline.

But I finished:

I didn't even have time to wipe the sweat off of my face for my finisher photo and I was off to the Beats1Run 5K.

It was a smaller event, mostly invite only or through word of mouth.  We were all handed Beats Powerbeats 2 Wireless headphones in their new colorway and a Beats1Run T-shirt that we were all encouraged to wear.

With all of our races, Adam and I don't always get to spend a ton of time with our family, so it was fun being able to run this with his sister, Rachel.

Me dying at the last mile.  Beats didn't have the streets closed down for this race, so we ran through an area we call "The Strand" where people walk, run, and bike along the beach.

And 16.2 miles later, I was finally done with this crazy two-race day:

Beats had a finisher lounge for us that included bagels and fresh fruit for re-fuel and complimentary champagne and wine.  But nothing was more rewarding than the pride of coming home with two medals in one day (and lots of blisters!):
